The Lives We Impact: Our 5-Pronged Approach to Changing the World

At AdvicePeriod, reinventing wealth management has been our mission since our launch in 2014. To measure our success, instead of an outdated and unhelpful metric like assets under management (AUM), we measure the success of our mission by tracking the number of lives we impact. 

We believe if we can impact enough lives, we can change communities. And if we change enough communities, we can change our industry and our country. 

The five strategies we employ are centered on Teammates, Clients, Financial Advisors, Technology and Content. 

Teammates

Our teammates, at 85 strong, and their families are the first lives we impact. We purposely build our results-based culture to attract a diverse group of missionaries. Our teammates are seeking something more than a job. They want to work with a group of like-minded professionals committed to making the world a better place.

Clients

Working directly with clients, we are able to impact their families in a very powerful way. Our clients are looking for more than just the money management that represents the sum total of the help many advisors offer. Clients want financial and estate planning, tax coordination, bill pay, financial statements and legal document preparation integrated into a seamless digital experience. 

Financial Advisors

Over the last couple of years, we’ve attracted over 30 financial advisors who have plugged their business into our digital advisor platform. These advisors want to own and grow their businesses and simplify their lives (and the lives of their clients)—so they can impact more lives. 

Technology

Led by my partner Steve Lockshin, the entire company is tech-enabled and our team is aggressively curious to find and try the latest app, system or solution. We personally invest our time and money in firms like Vanilla, Advizr, Quovo, Betterment and JustInvest, which are reinventing crucial areas of personal finance. The reach of these incredibly successful technology companies allows us, indirectly, to impact thousands of lives. 

Content

Content is another means by which we try to impact lives. From blogs to books and videos to podcasts, we purposely produce content that we believe will help clients and advisors alike. While my blog posts may only be read by a handful of people (including my mother), some of our content receives thousands of views and impressions.
